Regular readers of this blog know that my favorite video game of all time is the Super Nintendo cult classic Earthbound. For those of you who are not familiar with Earthbound it was a quirky turn based RPG where you played as a group of kids who had to band together to save the world. After creating a Mr. Saturn pattern a couple weeks ago I decided that it was time to make a Ness amigurumi. In addition to being the main protagonist of Earthbound, Ness has also been a regular character in the Smash Bros series.
This post provides step-by-step instructions on how to crochet your own Ness amigurumi. The Ness amigurumi stands around 10-11 inches tall. I would classify this pattern as moderately difficult. None of the stitches used in the pattern are difficult but the pattern requires you to make quite a few different pieces to complete it.
What Do You Need to Know

Assembly
First use the extra red yarn from the shoes to sew the shoes to the sock portion of the legs.
Next you will attach the legs to the torso. Use the excess peach/skin tone yarn at the top of the legs to sew them to the body so the feet face forward. I would recommend choosing the side with the abrupt changes in color to be the back of the amigurumi since you can then use the backpack to cover up the changes in colors.
Next you will be attaching the pant legs. Pull the pant legs up the legs so the side with the extra yarn is touching the body. Use the extra yarn to sew the pant legs to the torso.
Next you will sew the arms onto the body.
Next pull one sleeve up both arms so the side with the extra yarn touches the body. Use the extra yarn to sew the sleeve to the body.
Take the hair and position it on the top of the head. Then use the extra yarn to sew it to the head.
Grab the two eyes and use the extra yarn to sew them to the head.
Take the nose and sew it to the face.
Sew the two ears to the sides of the head.
Take some black yarn and sew on a mouth.
Assemble the hat by sewing the hat brim to the base of the hat. To sew on the brim you are going to use the extra yarn from the brim to sew the wider side of the brim to the hat.
If you want to sew the hat to the amigurumi’s head, use the red yarn from the hat.
To assemble the backpack you will sew one backpack strap to both sides of the backpack. Once the backpack is assembled you can slip the two arms through the backpack straps to attach the backpack to the amigurumi.
