Objective
The objective of the game is to earn the most money after playing three puzzles.
Setup
- Choose a player to be the host. The host determines when players guess letters that are in the puzzle and keeps track of score.
- The host needs paper and something to write with.
- Sort the cards into the Wheel Deck and the Puzzle Deck.
- The youngest player starts the game.
- For each round the host draws a Puzzle card. They will read out the category for the card, and will then create the puzzle on a piece of paper making a dash for each letter in the puzzle.
How to Play the Wheel of Fortune Card Game
To begin your turn you need to decide whether you are going to spin the wheel, buy a vowel, or try to solve the puzzle.
Spinning the Wheel
The card game simulates spinning the wheel with the 20 Wheel Cards. You will shuffle all 20 cards. After you have shuffled the cards, you will flip over the top card. The card you flip over is the result of your spin.
If you draw a card that has a dollar value on it, that is how much you will receive if you correctly guess a consonant that is in the puzzle. You will receive the amount for each instant that your guessed letter appears in the puzzle.
Should you draw a Lose a Turn card, your turn ends. Play passes to the next player in turn order. The game does not say if play moves clockwise or counterclockwise.
If you draw a Bankrupt card, your turn ends. You also lose all of the money you have earned so far in the current puzzle.
Guessing a Consonant
After you spin the wheel and get a dollar amount, you will have to guess a consonant that none of the players have guessed this round.
If you guess a letter that is in the puzzle, the host writes down the letter in the corresponding spots on the board they created for the puzzle. For each of the letters that are in the puzzle, you will receive cash equal to the amount on the card you drew. Lets say you drew a $1,000 card and guessed T. If there are two T’s in the puzzle, you will receive $2,000. The host adds the amount you earned to your current total for the puzzle.
When you guess a letter that is in the puzzle, you get to take another turn. You can either spin the wheel again, buy a vowel, or try to solve the puzzle.
Should you guess a letter that is not in the puzzle, your turn ends. The host should write down the letter next to the puzzle so the players know that letter was already guessed in the round. Play passes to the next player. The rules do not specify how turn order moves throughout the game.
Buying a Vowel
Instead of spinning the wheel and guessing a consonant, a player can choose to purchase a vowel. You must decide to take this action before you draw a Wheel card though.
To buy a vowel you need to spend $250. You only have to pay $250 no matter how many of the chosen vowel there are in the puzzle. The host deducts the $250 from the amount you have earned during the current puzzle.
You then choose any vowel that hasn’t already been guessed. If the letter is in the puzzle, the host writes it down in the corresponding spaces. The player then gets to take another turn either spinning the wheel, buying another vowel, or trying to solve the puzzle.
If the vowel is not in the puzzle, your turn is over. Play passes to the next player in turn order.
Solving the Puzzle
When you think you know the solution to the current puzzle, you can use your turn to make a guess. You must do this before you spin the wheel.
If you correctly solve the puzzle, you win the round. The amount you have earned during the current puzzle is added to your total for the whole game. The money the other players earned during the current puzzle is lost.
Should your guess be wrong, your turn ends. Play passes to the next player.
Winning the Game
You will play three puzzles in the game. After the third puzzle you will total the amount the players won by solving each of the puzzles. The player that earned the most money wins the game.
Two Player Game
The rules for the two player version of the Wheel of Fortune Card Game are mostly the same as the main game.
The players will take turns playing as the contestant and the host. When you are the contestant you will spin the wheel, buy vowels and solve like in the normal game. You will be the only player trying to solve the puzzle though.
Each time you guess a letter that is not in the puzzle or you make a guess at the solution and are wrong, you lose a turn. You have three turns to solve the puzzle. If you figure out the solution before you lose your three turns, you solve the puzzle and receive the amount of money you earned during the puzzle. If you can’t solve the puzzle within three turns, you earn no money for the puzzle.
Both players get to play three different puzzles. The player that earns more money from their three puzzles, wins the game.
