Objective of UNO Ted Lasso
The objective of UNO Ted Lasso is to be the first player to get rid of all of the cards from your hand.
Setup for UNO Ted Lasso
- Choose a player to be the dealer. They will shuffle all of the cards.
- The dealer deals seven cards to each player.
- The remaining cards are placed face down on the table to form the Draw Pile.
- Turn over the top card from the Draw Pile in order to create the Discard Pile. If you flip over an Action card (anything that isn’t a number card), you will ignore its effect. You will then turn over another card.
- The player to the left of the dealer starts the game. Play move clockwise/left to start the game.
Playing UNO Ted Lasso
You will begin your turn by looking at the top card on the Discard Pile as well as the cards in your hand. You are trying to find a card from your hand that matches the top card from the Discard Pile. A card matches if it shares one of the following criteria:
- Color
- Number
- Symbol
Playing a Card
If you have a card in your hand that matches the top card from the Discard Pile in one or more of these ways, you can play it immediately. If you play an Action card (something that isn’t a number card), you will take a special action.

Drawing a Card
You may choose not to play a card from your hand even if it can be played. If you chose not to play a card, you will treat the rest of your turn like you didn’t have a card that you could play.
If you do not have a card that you can play on your turn, you will draw the top card from the Draw Pile. Check this new card to see if it matches the top card on the Discard Pile. If the card matches one of the three criteria, you can play it immediately. The only card you can play though is the one that you just drew. You cannot play cards that were already in your hand. If you can’t play the card, you will add it to your hand.
If the Draw Pile ever runs out of cards, you will shuffle the Discard Pile to form a new Draw Pile.
After you have played or drawn a card, your turn ends. Play passes to the next player in turn order.
Cards of UNO Ted Lasso

Number
Number cards do not have a special ability in the game. You can only play them if they match the color or number of the top card on the Discard Pile.

Draw Two (+2)
The Draw Two card features +2 in the corners.
When you play a Draw Two card, the next player in turn order has to draw two cards from the Draw Pile. They also lose their next turn.

Reverse
The Reverse card features two arrows pointing in different directions.
When you play a Reverse card, the direction of play will reverse. If play was moving clockwise/left, it will now move counterclockwise/right. If play was moving counterclockwise/right, it will now move clockwise/left.

Skip
The Skip card features a circle with a line through it.
Playing a Skip card forces the next player in turn order to lose their turn.

Wild
The Wild features an oval shape in the corners with four different colored sections.
The Wild matches every other card in the game. Therefore you can play it at anytime. After you play the card you need to choose the new color for the Discard Pile. You can choose any of the four colors. You can even choose to keep the pile the same color it was before you played the Wild card.

Wild Draw Four (+4)
Each Wild Draw Four card has a +4 in the corners.
The Wild Draw Four card is wild so it matches every other card. It does have one caveat though. You can only play a Wild Draw Four if you have no other cards in your hand that match the current color. Other wild cards are considered matching the color.
When you play a Wild Draw Four card you can choose the color of the Discard Pile. This color will be used to continue gameplay, but it will be ignored during a player challenge.

When you play a Wild Draw Four the next player in turn order has two choices.
First you can accept the play of the card. In this case you will draw four cards and add them to your hand. You will also lose your next turn.
Challenging a Wild Draw Four
Otherwise you can choose to challenge the play of the Wild Draw Four.
When you choose to challenge the play of the Wild Draw Four, the player who played it has to show their hand to you, the challenging player. You will look through all of the cards in their hand to see if any match the color of the card on top of the Discard Pile below the Wild Draw Four that was just played.
If the card was played correctly (the player did not have any cards in their hand that match the color of the Draw Pile), the challenging player now has to draw six cards instead of the four that they originally had to draw. They will also lose their next turn.

Should the player, who played the Wild Draw Four, have at least one card in their hand that matches the color of the Discard Pile, they played the card incorrectly. They will have to draw four cards. The challenger no longer has to draw cards and they also don’t lose their turn.

Wild Roy Kent Grunt
The Wild Roy Kent Grunt card features a soccer ball in the corners.
When you play the card you will choose another player to compete against. You will compete in a staring contest with the player you chose. Both players need to try and maintain eye contact. While staring at one another, both players will try to make their best Roy Kent grunt. The first player to break character/look away, has to draw two cards.
The card is also wild so it can be played on top of any other card. When you play the card, you will choose the color for the Discard Pile. This can be any of the four colors including the color it was when you first played the card.
Calling UNO
When you only have one card left in your hand, you must call out “UNO” as quickly as possible. This is to let the other players know that you are close to winning the game.

If you should not call out UNO and another player catches you, you will have to draw two cards. The player must challenge you before the next player takes their turn.
Winning UNO Ted Lasso
The first player to play the last card from their hand wins UNO Ted Lasso.
Scoring Variant
If you would like to play a couple rounds/hands of UNO Ted Lasso, you can choose to use the scoring variant.
In this variant when a player wins a round (plays the last card from their hand), they will collect all of the cards left in their opponent’s hands. They will score points for each card as follows:
- Number cards – face value
- Draw Two, Reverse, Skip – 20 points
- Wild, Wild Draw Four, Wild Roy Kent Grunt – 50 points

You will keep a running total of all of the points that each player has scored. The first player to score 500 or more points, wins the game.
