Objective
The objective of UNO Despicable Me 4 is to be the first player to play all of the cards from your hand.
Set Up
- Choose a player to be the dealer. The dealer shuffles all of the cards and deals seven to each player. Players can look at their own cards, but they shouldn’t show them to the other players.
- Place the rest of the cards face down on the table. These cards form the Draw Pile.
- Turn over the top card from the Draw Pile and place it face up next to the pile. This card starts the Discard Pile. If you flip over an Action card (anything other than a number card) ignore its effect. Flip over another card and place it on top of the Discard Pile.
- The player to the left of the dealer starts the game. Play moves clockwise/left throughout the game.
How to Play UNO Despicable Me 4
On your turn you will try to play one of the cards from your hand. You may play a card if it matches the top card on the Discard Pile. A card can match another in one of three ways.
- Color
- Number
- Symbol
If you have a card that matches the top card on the Discard Pile, you can play it. You may only play one card each turn. When you play an Action card, you will take a special action. See the corresponding section below to see what each Action card does.
After you play a card, your turn ends. Play passes to the next player in turn order.
Drawing a Card
If you do not have a card that you can play, you have to draw the top card from the Draw Pile. Look at the card you just drew. If the card matches the top card on the Discard Pile, you can play it immediately. Otherwise you have to add the card to your hand.
If you have a card in your hand that you can play but you don’t want to, you can choose not to play it. If you choose not to play a card, you will treat the rest of your turn as if you didn’t have a card that you could play. You may not play the card that you passed on playing for the rest of your current turn.
If the Draw Pile ever runs out of cards, you will shuffle the Discard Pile to form a new Draw Pile.
After you draw a card, your turn ends. Play passes to the next player in turn order.
UNO Despicable Me 4 Card Meanings
Numbers
Number cards have no special action in the game. You can only play a number card if it matches the number or color of the top card on the Discard Pile.
Draw Two
The Draw Two card forces the next player in turn order to draw two cards and lose their turn.
You may play a Draw Two card on top of another Draw Two card, or a card that matches its color. If a Draw Two card is played against you, you cannot play your own Draw Two card to avoid the punishment and pass it onto the next player.
Reverse
When you play a Reverse card, the direction of play changes. If play was moving clockwise/left, it will now move counter-clockwise/right. If play was moving counter-clockwise/right, it will now move clockwise/left.
You can play a Reverse card on top of another Reverse card or a card that matches its color.
Skip
A Skip card forces the next player in turn order to lose their turn.
A player can play a Skip card on top of another Skip card, or a card that matches its color. If a Skip card is played against you, you cannot play your own Skip card to avoid the punishment.
Wild
The Wild card matches every other card in the game. Therefore you can play the card at any time. When you play a Wild card you get to choose the color for the Discard Pile. You can choose any of the four colors including the color it was when you played the card.
Wild Draw Four
The Wild Draw Four is wild so it matches every other card in the game. There is a catch though. You may not play a Wild Draw Four if you have another card in your hand that matches the Discard Pile’s color. Wild cards count as matching the color.
When you play a Wild Draw Four, you will choose the color for the Discard Pile. You can choose any color, but the color you choose has no impact on any potential challenge to the play of the card.
The next player in turn order then has a decision to make. First they can choose to accept the play of the card. In this case they will draw four cards and lose their turn.
Challenging a Wild Draw Four
Otherwise the player can choose to challenge the play of the Wild Draw Four. If a player chooses to challenge, the player who played the card has to show their entire hand to the challenger. The challenger will look at all of the cards to make sure that there are no cards in the player’s hand that match the color of the Discard Pile from before the Wild Draw Four was played.
If the player had no cards in their hand that match the color of the Discard Pile, they played the card correctly. The challenger now has to draw six cards and still loses their turn.
If the player did have a card in their hand that matches the color of the Discard Pile, they played the card incorrectly. The player that played the Wild Draw Four has to draw the four cards. The challenger does not have to draw any cards, and they don’t lose their turn.
Wild Mega Minions Power
The Wild Mega Minions Power card is exclusive to UNO Despicable Me 4. The card is wild so you can play it at any time.
When you play the card, all of the other players look for Action cards in their hand. They must discard all of the cards from their hand that have the Mega Minions icon on them. All of the Draw 2, Reverse, and Skip cards have the symbol on them. You will discard the cards to the bottom of the Discard Pile.
After discarding the Action cards from their hand, each player draws a number of cards from the Draw Pile equal to the number they just discarded.
Since the card is wild, the player that plays it also chooses the color for the Discard Pile. They can choose any of the four colors.
Calling UNO
When you only have one card left in your hand, you should yell “UNO” as quickly as possible. This is to alert the other players that you are close to winning the game.
If you do not call out UNO the other players can challenge you. If someone challenges you before the next player takes their turn, you have to draw two cards. While it doesn’t say for this specific version of UNO, other versions of UNO have said that the next player starting to play a card or drawing a card counts as them taking their turn.
Winning the Game
The first player to play the last card from their hand wins the game.
Alternative Scoring
If you would like to play a couple hands, you can choose to keep score.
The player who plays the last card from their hand, wins the round. The rules for UNO Despicable Me 4 don’t specifically say what happens if the last played card is a Draw Two or a Wild Draw Four. In many versions of UNO, the next player has to draw the corresponding number of cards. The winner of the round collects all of the cards left in the other players hands. They will score points for each card as follows:
- Number cards – Face Value
- Draw Two, Reverse, Skip – 20 points each
- Wild, Wild Draw Four, Wild Mega Minions Power – 50 points each
The winner writes down how many points they scored in the round. If none of the players have scored 500 or more points, you will play another round. The first player to score a total of 500 points wins the game.
