  • Shuffle each type of card to mix up the cards.
  • Choose whether you are going to play the Classic or DIY Mode.

Playing Classic New Phone Who Dis? Family Edition

If you choose to play the classic mode, at the start of the game each player draws seven Reply cards and adds them to their hand. The oldest player starts the game as the judge.

The judge draws an Inbox card and reads it out loud. They will then place it on the table where everyone can see it.

Drawing an Inbox card for the Classic Mode
To start the round the current judge drew this Inbox card. All of the other players have to pick a card from their hand that works well with this Inbox card.

All of the players besides the judge choose a card from their hand to play. You want to pick a card that you think the judge will like. You can use whatever criteria you want to use when picking a card. Generally trying to come up with a funny reply is best. When you have picked a card, you will pass it to the judge facedown.

Picking a card to play in the Classic Mode
For the current Inbox card, this player chose to play the Reply card “I dunno. Lemme ask my mom.”.

Picking the Best Submission

When the judge has received a card from all of the other players, they will mix up the cards so they don’t know who submitted each card. They will then read the submitted cards out loud and choose one card that they think is best. The judge can use whatever criteria they want to pick the best submitted Reply card.

Choosing the best submission for a round
During this round six Reply cards were submitted. The judge has to pick which card they like the most.

The player that submitted the best reply keeps their Reply card and the Inbox card from the round. These will count for a point at the end of the game.

Picking the best answer in New Phone Who Dis? Family Edition
The judge decided this was the best submission in the round. The player that played the card gets to take the two cards and will use them for a point at the end of the game.

Before you begin the next round each player draws until they have seven Reply cards in their hand. The player to the left of the current judge becomes the judge in the next round.

Playing DIY Mode

The DIY Mode plays similar to the Classic Mode with one main change.

To start the game each player draws four Reply and four Inbox cards. For the first round the oldest player is the first judge.

All of the players, other than the judge, look at their cards. They need to select one Inbox and one Reply card to play together. They are trying to find two cards that work well together to make a winning answer. You generally want to try for a funny pair of cards, but you can use any criteria to pick the cards.

Submitting an answer in the DIY Mode
One of the players decided to play these two cards for their submission for the current round.

When you have picked your pair of cards, you pass them to the judge making sure the two cards stay together.

Picking the Best Submission

Once everyone has submitted their pair of cards, the judge reads each pair separately. The judge then chooses which pair of cards that they think was best. They can use whatever criteria they want to choose the best pair.

Picking the best submission for the round
The current judge has to pick which of these five submissions they think is the best.

The player that submitted the best pair of cards takes both cards which score a point at the end of the game.

Winning answer for a found in the DIY Mode
The judge decided this was the best submission in the round. The player that submitted the cards gets to take both cards which score a point at the end of the game.

All of the players draw cards until they have four Reply and four Inbox cards. The role of the judge moves to the player to the left of the previous judge.
