Objective of Monopoly Cheaters Edition
The objective of Monopoly Cheaters Edition is to earn more cash than the other players.
Setup for Monopoly Cheaters Edition
- Each player receives the following money from the Bank. Players must keep their money spread out in front of them and not in a stack.
- 3 – M10
- 1 – M20
- 1 – M50
- 4 – M100
- 2 – M500
- Add the rest of the money to the Bank tray.
- Place one Hotel on Connecticut Avenue. Add the rest of the Hotels to the Bank tray.
- Shuffle the Community Chest cards and place them face down on the corresponding space on the gameboard.
- Shuffle the Chance cards and place them face down on the corresponding space on the gameboard.
- Take the Cheat cards and shuffle them. Place five cards face up on the corresponding spots on the gameboard. Place the rest of the Cheat cards in the Bank tray.
- Set each Title Deed next to its corresponding spot on the gameboard.
- Each player chooses a token and places it on the GO space.
- Put the dice and the handcuff by the gameboard.
- Each player rolls both of the dice. Whoever rolls the highest number starts the game. The current player takes control of the Bank tray. Play moves clockwise throughout the game.
Playing for Monopoly Cheaters Edition
On your turn you should look at the Cheat cards in the center of the board to see if there is one or more that you think you can complete on your turn. You can complete Cheat cards even if it is not your turn. See the Cheat Cards section below for more details.
You will begin your turn by rolling both of the dice. You will move your token clockwise around the board the number of spaces you rolled.
Look at the space that your token landed on. You will take the action corresponding to the type of space that it is. See the Spaces of Monopoly Cheaters Edition section below for more details.
Should you roll doubles, you will get to roll the dice again and take another turn. If you roll doubles three times in a row, you will have to immediately move your token to Jail. See the Go to Jail section for more details.
After you complete your turn you will pass the dice and the Bank tray to the player on your left. Your turn ends as soon as the next player rolls the dice. If anyone cheated on the previous turn, they will reveal it at this time. For more details check out the Cheating in Monopoly Cheaters Edition section below.
The Spaces of Monopoly Cheaters Edition
Unowned Properties
If you land on a Property that is not owned by any players, you must either purchase or auction it.
To purchase the Property you will pay the price printed on the space to the Bank. You will then take the corresponding Title Deed card.
If you don’t want the Property, you will put it up for auction. The auction begins at M10. Players do not have to take turns in the bidding process. Each bid has to raise the price by at least M10. Whoever bids the most pays the Bank their winning bid. They will then take the corresponding Title Deed.
If no one wants to bid on the Property, the Title Deed stays where it is and the auction is canceled.
Owned Properties
Should you land on a Property that is owned by another player, you will have to pay them rent. You only owe them rent if the owner asks you for it.
If the owner asks you for rent, you will pay the amount printed on the corresponding Title Deed.
Should the owner have all of the cards of the corresponding color, they can charge you the “rent with color set” amount.
If there is a Hotel on the space, they can charge the Hotel rent for the Property.
Some of the cards in the game refer to a Property’s face value. A Property’s face value is usually equal to the price printed on its board space. If there is a Hotel on the space, the Property’s face value is equal to the Hotel rent for the Property.
GO
When you land on or pass the GO space, you will collect M200 from the Bank.
Chance and Community Chest
When you land on a Chance or Community Chest card, you will take the top card from the corresponding deck.
You will read the card. If the card says that you have to take the action immediately, you will read the card out loud and take the corresponding action.
If the card doesn’t say that it has to be played immediately, you can choose to keep it for a later time. You may only keep one Chance and Community Chest card at a time. If you have to draw another card of a type that you already have, you will still draw the card. You must then play or discard one of the two cards.
Railroads
When you land on a Railroad space you will immediately move your token to the next Railroad space. Your turn then ends.
Free Parking
Landing on Free Parking gives you the opportunity to draw either a Chance or Community Chest card.
Just Visiting
Nothing happens when you land on this space. You can choose to say hello to any cheaters that are currently in Jail.
Go to Jail
When you land on the Go to Jail space or are forced to go to jail due to some other reason, you will immediately move your token to the Jail space. You will not receive M200 for passing go.
You will take the handcuff and place it on your hand. The base of the handcuff is then placed underneath the board near your seat.
Your turn then immediately ends. While in Jail you can still collect rent, bid during auctions, buy Hotels, trade with other players, cheat, and catch cheaters. The only Chance or Community Chest cards that you can play are Get Out of Jail Free cards.
If someone is already in Jail when you arrive, they are immediately freed. They will give you the handcuff and will move their token to the Just Visiting space.
Getting Out of Jail
There are four ways to get out of Jail in Monopoly Cheaters Edition.
- Pay M50 to the Bank at the start of your turn. You will then immediately roll the dice and move like normal.
- Use a Get Out of Jail Free card at the start of your turn. Put the card at the bottom of the appropriate deck. Then roll the dice and move the corresponding number of spaces.
- You can choose to roll the dice. If you roll doubles you will get out of Jail immediately. You will use your roll to move around the board. If you don’t roll doubles within three turns, you will pay M50 and use your last roll to move.
- Finally you can choose to cheat to get out of Jail. If the Escape Artist Cheat card is face up on the board, you can try to secretly move your token out of Jail.
Cheating in Monopoly Cheaters Edition
At all times there will be Cheat cards in the middle of the board. Each of these cards give players a different way of cheating in the game. You can cheat in any of the ways printed on these cards. Players can cheat at any time even if it is not their turn. Therefore you should watch the other players at all times.
When you want to cheat in Monopoly Cheaters Edition take the action printed on one of the cards. Try to do it in a way that the other players don’t notice. If you successfully complete the cheat you need to wait until the next player rolls the dice.
If no one catches you cheating, you will tell the other players how you cheated. You will look at the back of the corresponding card and get the reward for successfully completing the cheat.
Should you spot another player cheating you will call out “Cheater”. You will then describe how the player cheated. You must do this before the next player rolls the dice.
If the player was cheating, they must take the penalty on the back of the Cheat card that they tried to complete.
If someone accuses you of cheating and you didn’t, you can try and prove your innocence. Should you prove your innocence, your accuser must pay you M100. If you are unable to prove that you didn’t cheat, the other players will decide who they think is right and who deserves a penalty.
Whether you are successful at cheating or are caught, you will return the Cheat card that was attempted to the bottom of the Cheat deck. You will then add the top card from the deck to the gameboard.
Hotels
Monopoly Cheaters Edition does not have Houses like the normal game. Instead you can immediately build a Hotel on a Property once you own all of the Title Deeds for that Property color.
You can add Hotels to your Properties even if it is not currently your turn. Each Property can only have one Hotel on it. To place a Hotel you will pay the Bank the Hotel cost printed on the Title Deed.
This rule can sometimes be broken due to Cheat, Chance cards, and Community Chest cards. These options may allow you to buy, move or place Hotels on Properties that are not part of a set.
If you ever have to give a Property back to the Bank and it has a Hotel on it, the Hotel stays on the Property. When someone else buys the Property, they get to use the Hotel.
You may not sell Hotels back to the Bank or to another player.
If there is only one Hotel left and multiple players want it, the Hotel will be auctioned off. Whoever bids the most for it gets to take the Hotel. They will pay their bid to the Bank.
Deals and Trades
At any time in the game you can choose to buy, sell, or trade Property with other players. You can trade Property for cash, other Properties, and/or Get Out of Jail Free cards.
For a trade to go through all of the players in the trade need to agree to the terms of the deal.
Bankruptcy
Players will sometimes owe money and not have enough cash on hand to pay off their debt. In this case they need to start selling properties in order to raise funds. You can’t mortgage properties in Monopoly Cheaters Edition.
You can sell Properties back to the Bank for their face value. A property without a Hotel on it is worth the amount printed on the space. Properties with a Hotel are worth the rent that you would charge if a player landed on it. You could also decide to sell a Property to another player for an agreed-upon price.
When selling a Property with a Hotel on it, the Hotel stays with the Property. When someone acquires the Property, they can charge the higher rent from the Hotel immediately.
If you can’t raise enough money to pay off your debt, you have to declare Bankruptcy. If you still owe money to another player, you will give them all of your Properties, Chance cards, and Community Chest cards.
Should you still owe the Bank money, you will immediately put all of your Properties up for auction. Whatever players pay for the Properties go to the bank. Any Chance and Community Chest cards are returned to the bottom of their corresponding decks.
Winning Monopoly Cheaters Edition
The game ends when all of the players have been purchased by a player. Each player gets to keep playing until they reach the GO space. Once you reach the GO space you will stop moving even if you have spaces remaining. You will collect your M200. You will not take your turn for the rest of the game.
Once everyone has reached the GO space, the game ends. Each player totals their net worth. In this phase you need to be honest and can’t cheat.
For each Property that you own, you will collect the rent that you would earn if a player landed on it during the game. You will add the rent from each of your Properties to your cash on hand.
Whichever player has the most total money wins the game.
Ultimate Cheater’s Mode in Monopoly Cheaters Edition
In the normal game you can only cheat by following one of the Cheat cards face up on the gameboard.
In this variant mode you can cheat at any time. You need to follow the rules on Cheat, Chance and Community Chest cards. Otherwise you can cheat however you want. You can steal money from the bank, move as many spaces as you want, or pretty much do whatever you want. As long as you can get away with it, you can do it.
Depending on how the players cheat in the game, you will have to make up house rules to determine how a player will be punished if they are caught.
