Objective of Chompin’ Charlie
The objective of Chompin’ Charlie is to be the first player to collect five acorns and add them to your secret stash.
Setup
- Insert Chompin’ Charlie into the top of the tree trunk. You should place Charlie so the holes in his feet line up with the pins in the tree trunk.
- Place all of the acorns inside the acorn holder.
- Each player takes a secret stash card.
- Gently pull back on Charlie’s tail. You should hear a click sound to confirm that you pulled the tail back far enough. Once you hear the click you should let go of the tail.
- The youngest player starts the game. Play proceeds clockwise/left during the game.
Playing Chompin’ Charlie
To begin your turn you will roll the die. What you roll on the die determines what you will do on your turn.
If you roll a single color acorn (blue, green, red or yellow), you will take an acorn of the corresponding color from the acorn holder.
Should the die land on a multi-color acorn, you will choose an acorn of any of the colors from the acorn holder.
If you roll the double multi-color acorn, you will take two acorns from the acorn holder. You can choose the color for each acorn you choose to take. You can choose two acorns of the same color, or two different colors.
If the die forces you to take a color that is no longer in the acorn holder, you will take one of the corresponding colored acorns from your own secret stash or another player’s secret stash.
Once you have chosen your acorn(s), you will feed them to Charlie. Press the acorn until it falls into his mouth.
If nothing happens after you add the acorn to Charlie’s mouth, your turn ends. Play passes clockwise to the next player.
Pick Up Acorns
Once too many acorns are added to Charlie it will trigger all of the acorns to fall out of the base. They will slide out from underneath the tree stump.
Once acorns start rolling out of the tree, all of the players will race to pick them up as quickly as possible. You can only use one of your hands to pick up the acorns. There is no requirement on what colored acorns you need to collect. Therefore you should take whichever colored acorns you can.
You should add the acorns you collect to your own secret stash.
To continue playing the game you will push down on Charlie’s tail to reset the tree. Once you hear the click sound you will have pushed far enough on the rail. You can then let go of the tail.
Winning Chompin’ Charlie
The game ends as soon as one player collects and stashes five acorns. They will shout out “acorns” as quickly as possible. The first player who collects five acorns and places them in their secret stash wins the game.
