Objective of Googly Eyes Showdown
The objective of Googly Eyes Showdown is to be the first team to reach the finish space.
Setup
- Place the gameboard in the middle of the table.
- Place the glasses, lenses, tokens, die and timer next to the gameboard.
- Shuffle all of the cards and place them face down on the table.
- The players should divide into two teams. The two teams should be divided as evenly as possible. Each team needs at least two players.
- Each team chooses a pawn and places it on the start space.
Playing Googly Eyes Showdown
To begin each round both of the teams will choose one of their players to be the artist. Both of the players chosen to be the artist randomly selects one of the colored tokens. Each color corresponds to one of the lenses. Take one of the pairs of glasses and insert the corresponding lenses.
Both artists draw a card and announce the card’s category to their team. Each artist then looks at the space that their pawn is currently on. This determines what word that they will have to draw. To start the game both teams will draw the word corresponding to green as that is the color of the start space.
The artists announce how much time they have to draw their word (printed on the card). Set the timer to whichever time is shorter. If one artist gets more time, they will get the additional time once the timer goes off. The artists cannot draw when the timer is being reset.
Both players put on their glasses and the round begins.
Drawing
The artists both try to draw their word at the same time. They can draw whatever they want with a few exceptions.
- You cannot draw letters or numbers.
- Players cannot make sounds or mime.
- Artists must remain seated and they cannot take off their glasses.
While their artist is drawing, the players on their team try to guess what they are drawing. Players can guess as much as they want, as there is no punishment for incorrect guesses.
The first team to correctly guess their word, wins the round. They will roll the die and move their pawn the corresponding number of spaces.
If neither team guesses their word in time, neither team scores any points in the current round.
In either case a new round is played. Both teams should choose a new artist and a new card will be drawn.
Special Spaces
If after moving your pawn lands on one of the special spaces, you can use its ability against your opponent on the next turn. You can only use the ability once even if you remain on the space. The effect of each space are listed below:
You can choose the color of your opposing team’s lenses. Both lenses have to be the same color.
The other team has to draw with their non-dominant hand. If you normally draw with your right hand, you have to use your left hand. If you normally use your left hand, you need to use your right hand.
The other team has to skip the next round.
You will choose which of the words on your opponent’s card that they must draw in the next round. This can be different than the color of their current space.
The other team only has three guesses on their next turn.
Winning Googly Eyes Showdown
The first team to reach the finish space wins Googly Eyes Showdown. You do not need to reach the final space by exact count.
