Setup for The Lion King The Game

How to Play Disney The Lion King The Game

You will begin your turn by spinning the spinner. What you spin determines what you will do on your turn. The instructions do not say what part of the spinner you use to determine what was spun. The players should agree on which part of Rafiki is used to determine what you spin.

Should you spin a number, you will move your token forward the corresponding number of spaces.

Spinning a number
The current player spun a three on the spinner. They will move their playing piece three spaces.

When you spin “Move Token”, you will choose any of the face down tokens from the gameboard. They will move the token to any other empty space on the gameboard.

Spinning Move Token
This player has spun “Move Token” on the spinner. They will choose one of the tokens from the board and move it to another empty space.

If you spin X2, you will spin the spinner again. You will keep spinning until you spin a number. You will move your token forward spaces equal to twice the number you spin.

Spinning a X2
This player has spun X2 on the spinner. They will spin again and double the number they spin to determine how many spaces they will move.

When you are moving your playing piece, you will move it the corresponding number of spaces following the arrows printed on the board. There are some areas where the path splits. You can choose to move down either of the paths. After you move your token, you will take an action based on what space you landed on. Should you land on a space that already has a player on it, you will move your token to the next unoccupied space.

Movement in The Lion King The Game
The Pumba player spun a three on the spinner. They move their token forward three spaces.

Disney The Lion King The Game Board Spaces

There are a couple unique spaces on the board. When you land on one of these spaces, you have to take a special action.

Landing on a token
The Timon player has landed on a token. They will turn it over and take the corresponding action.

Space With a Token on It

When you land on a space with a token on it, you will flip it over and place it on your board. Many of the tokens have a special action associated with them. When you take the token, you have to take the corresponding action. See the Tokens section below for details on what each token does.

Spin Again space

Spin Again

You will spin the spinner again. Take the action corresponding to what you spun.

Hippo space

Hippo

When you land on a hippo space, you will release a token from either of the hippos. If you need the token that is revealed, you will add it to your play mat.

Drawing a token that matches your board
The Simba player drew a Zebra token which matches their board. They will place the token on the corresponding spot on their board.

If you don’t need the token, you will place it in the graveyard.

Drawing a non-matching token
The Simba player drew the bug token on the right side. Since the bug is not on their board, they will add the token to the graveyard.

Should a hippo dispenser ever run out of tokens, you can take a token of your choice from the graveyard.

Search space

Search

Should you land on a Search space, you will look at the tokens placed in the graveyard. If you need one of the tokens, you can take it and add it to your play mat.

Taking a token from the graveyard
The current player landed on a Search space. They need the elephant token so they will take it and add it to their board.

Disney The Lion King The Game Tokens

Hyena token

Hyenas

If you collect a hyenas token, you will place it on one of the empty spaces on the bottom row of your play mat.

Acquiring a hyena token
The Timon player has acquired a hyena token. They will place it on one of the three spaces on the bottom of their board.

Should you ever collect three hyena tokens, you will lose one of the animal/bug tokens from your play mat. You will choose which token to discard. You will add the discarded token to the graveyard.

Getting three hyenas
The Timon player has acquired three hyena tokens. They will lose one of the bug tokens that they placed on their gameboard. They will add it to the graveyard.
Scar token

Scar

When you collect a Scar token, you will spin the spinner. You are hoping to spin an even number. You have two chances to spin an even number on the spinner.

If you spin an even number, you take no further action on your turn. The Scar token is removed from the game and returned to the box.

Spinning even after getting a Scar token
After drawing a Scar token, this player spun a two on the spinner. Since they spun an even number, they do not lose any of the tokens that they have collected so far.

Should you not spin an even number on either of your spins, you have to chose one of the animal/bug tokens from your play mat. You will move the chosen token to the graveyard. If you don’t currently have any animal/bug tokens, you don’t lose anything. The Scar token is removed from the game.

Mufasa token

Mufasa

When you reveal a Mufasa token, you will place it on the character image on your play mat. You will keep the token until you need to use it. You can only keep one Mufasa token at a time. Should you reveal a second one when you already have one, keep the Mufasa token on the space where you found it.

Getting a Mufasa token
The Nala player picked up a Mufasa token. They will keep it until they decide to use it.

A Mufasa token can be used in one of two ways.

First if you ever reveal a Scar token, you can use the Mufasa token to prevent you from losing a token. Remove the Scar and Mufasa tokens from the game.

Using a Mufasa token against a Scar token
The Nala player just received a Scar token. They decide to use their Mufasa token to block the Scar token.

Otherwise you can use a Mufasa token against the hyenas. You may discard your Mufasa token in order to discard one of the hyena tokens that you have collected. Both tokens are removed from the game.

Winning the Game

The game ends once one of the players have collected the four tokens printed on their play mat. The player that collects the four tokens wins the game.

Winning The Lion King The Game
The Simba player has acquired a token matching all of the spaces on the top of their board. They have won the game.
