Objective of Blockbuster Party Game (2019)

The objective of Blockbuster Party Game (2019) is to be the first team to collect a movie from all eight genres/colors.

Setup for Blockbuster Party Game (2019)

• The players should divide into two teams.
• Assemble the Parking Lot Sign and board. Place the completed board in the middle of the table.
• Place the buzzer next to the board.
• Shuffle the Movie and Head-to-Head cards and place them face down in the middle of the table.

Playing Blockbuster Party Game (2019)

Blockbuster Party Game (2019) is played over a number of rounds. Each round consists of two phases.

• Head-to-Head Phase
• Movie Phase

Head-to-Head Phase in Blockbuster Party Game 2019

Each team chooses one of their players to represent them in the Head-to-Head phase. The two chosen players will sit across from one another with the buzzer between them.

Count down from three and then flip over the top card from the Head-to-Head deck. Printed on the card will be a category. This category details the type of movies that the two players competing will have to come up with.

The first player to think of a movie that matches the revealed category shouts out its title and presses the buzzer. This starts a 15 second timer.

The other player than has 15 seconds to come up with another movie that fits the category. They will have to shout out their movie title and hit the buzzer before time runs out.

The players will keep taking turns listing off movie titles that fit the category until one of the players is unable to come up with one before the timer goes off. The last player to name a movie title wins the Head-to-Head phase. The winner of the Head-to-Head phase gets an advantage in the Movie phase.

Rules When Listing Movies

While listing off movie titles, once a movie is named all movies in the same series are no longer allowed. For example if someone says Star Wars, Star Wars Empire Strikes Back cannot be given as an answer.

During this round the players not competing in the Head-to-Head faceoff cannot talk. They can mime out answers though hoping that their teammate can guess what they are trying to mime out.

If you think a player listed off an incorrect answer, you can challenge them. This ends the round immediately. You will then look up the movie to determine if the player was right. If the movie was incorrect, the challenging team wins the Head-to-Head. If the answer was correct, the team that provided the answer wins the Head-to-Head.

Movie Phase in Blockbuster Party Game 2019

Choosing Cards

The winner of the Head-to-Head round draws six cards from the Movie deck and looks at them. They will choose three cards to keep for themselves, and gives the other three cards to the player they faced off against in the Head-to-Head phase.

Both players will look at their Movie cards and decide where they want to place them on their side of the gameboard. You will place one card facedown in each section of the board. Where you place each card determines how you can describe the card to your teammates. See below to see what you can do for each category.

One Word Only

You must describe the movie you place on this space with just one word. You can repeat the word as many times as you want and in any way you think you can get your teammates to guess the movie.

When giving your clue, you may not say a word that appears in the title of the movie.

Quote It

In this category you will use a quote from the movie to try and get your teammates to guess it. If you know a famous quote from the movie, you should use it if you think your teammates will know it. Otherwise you can make one up that fits the movie.

Act It

In this category you will try to act out the movie. You can act out the movie however you want. You may not talk while acting though.

Playing the Movie Phase

Starting with the player that won the Head-to-Head phase, they will try to get their teammates to guess the three cards that they chose. They can choose the order they want to attempt the categories, and can even come back to one that their teammates are having trouble guessing.

You will have 30 seconds to try and get your teammates to guess all of your movies. Hold the buzzer for two seconds in order to start the timer.

Once one of your teammates guess the correct movie, you will flip over the card (so you can see the title) and move onto one of the other cards.

Should you get all three of your cards and still have time remaining, you can move onto trying to guess the other team’s cards. You will have to describe these cards following the categories that the other player placed them on.

When the timer goes off, collect all of the cards that your team correctly guessed. You will add these cards to your collection.

The other team then gets to take their turn. Should they complete all of their cards in time, they can start trying to guess any movies that the other team was unable to get. You can only do this after you have gotten all of your own cards though.

End of Movie Phase

At the end of the Movie phase each team has the opportunity to steal a Movie card from the other team.

If you want to steal a card from the other team, you need to discard three Movie cards of the same genre from your collection. You can then steal one Movie card from the other team.

Each team can only steal one card each round.

Playing Another Round

If neither team has acquired enough Movie cards to win the game, another round is played. Each team chooses a new player to lead their team for the next round.
