Objective
The objective of UNO Lightyear is to be the first player to get rid of all of the cards from your hand.
Set Up
- Choose a player to be the dealer. The dealer shuffles all of the cards and deals seven to each player.
- Place the rest of the cards face down on the table. These cards become the Draw Pile.
- Take the top card from the Draw Pile and flip it over. This card starts the Discard Pile. Should you flip over an Action card (any card that is not a number card), ignore it and flip over another card.
- The player to the left of the dealer starts the game. Play moves clockwise to start the game.
How to Play UNO Disney Pixar Lightyear
On your turn you will try to play a card from your hand to the Discard Pile. To play a card in UNO Disney Pixar Lightyear it has to match one of the following three elements:
- Color
- Number
- Symbol
If you have a card in your hand that matches one of these elements of the top card on the Discard Pile, you can play it. If you play an Action card (any card that isn’t a number card), you will take a special action. Check out our Card Meanings post for the details on what each card’s special action is. You can only play one card on your turn.
Should you have a matching card, you can choose not to play the card. If you choose not to play a card, you will treat the rest of your turn as if you didn’t have a matching card.
After you play a card, your turn ends. Play passes to the next player in turn order.
Draw a Card
Should you have no matching cards or you chose not to play one, you will take the top card from the Draw Pile. Look at the card you just drew. If you can play the card that you just drew, you can play it immediately.
Should you not be able to play the card, you will add it to your hand.
After you draw a new card, your turn ends. Play passes to the next player in turn order.
Calling UNO
Whenever you play a card and only have one left in your hand, you should call out UNO. This is to alert the other players that you are close to winning the game.
Should you not call out UNO, the other players can challenge you. They must challenge you before the next player takes their turn. In most versions of UNO this means they either start to play or draw a card. Should a player successfully challenge you, you will have to draw two cards.
Winning the Game
The first player to play the last card from their hand wins the game.
Scoring
Instead of playing individual hands, you can choose to play a series of hands that lead to an ultimate winner.
Each hand ends when a player plays the last card from their hand. They will collect all of the cards left in the other players’ hands. While the rules for UNO Disney Pixar Lightyear don’t specifically say what happens when the last played card forces a player to draw cards, in most versions of UNO the player has to draw the cards before the winner collects all of the cards.
The winner of the hand scores points for each card they collect. They will score points for the cards as follows:
- Number cards – face value
- Draw Two, Reverse, Skip – 20 points each
- Wild, Wild Draw Four, Wild Hyperspeed – 50 points each
You will keep a running total of each player’s score. The first player to reach 500 points wins the game.
