How to Play Schitt’s Creek Love That Journey

To begin each of your turns you will draw the top Question card. Then look at the space that your playing piece is currently on. This determines what type of question you will answer this turn.

If you are on a Téte-á-Téte space you will draw two Character cards from the deck. Place one of the cards on the left slot on the bottom of the gameboard, and place the other card on the right slot. You will use the Téte-á-Téte side of the Question card.

Téte-á-Téte space
The current player is on a Téte-á-Téte space. They will draw a card and turn it to the corresponding side. They will also flip over two of the Character cards and place them on the left and right spots on the gameboard. The current player has to decide which of the two characters they would call in an emergency.

If you are on a Would I space, you will use the Would I side of the card.

Would I space
The current player is on a Would I space. They draw a card and turn it to the Would I side. The current player has to decide whether they would host a murder mystery party or a poker night.

Read the side of the Question card corresponding to the space that your playing piece is currently on. Every question will be answered with either left or right. For the Téte-á-Téte questions, this corresponds to the Character cards on the board. For the Would I questions, the left and right options are shown on the card.

Choosing an Answer

You will consider the question and choose either the left or right answer. Once you have made your decision, you will take your Answer Token and turn it so your chosen side is visible in your hand. You should close your hand to prevent any of the other players from seeing your chosen answer.

Choosing an answer
The current player has decided to choose left for their answer. They will hold their token so the left side is visible in their hand.

The rest of the players then decide how they think you will answer the question. They will hold their Answer Token in their hand so their choice is visible. They should hold it so the other players can’t see their answer.

Once everyone has chosen their answers, all of the players will reveal their tokens.

Each player who guessed the same as you (the current player), moves their playing piece forward one space. You get to move forward one space if at least half of the players guessed correctly. You should explain your choice to the rest of the players.

Comparing answers inSchitts Creek Love That Journey
The current player chose left and two players matched them. The current player and the two players that matched them each earn one space on the gameboard.
Moving playing pieces after guessing the right answer
The current player and the two players that matched them move their playing pieces forward one space.

The Question card and any Character cards used during the turn are discarded. If you ever run out of Character cards, you will shuffle the discard pile to form a new draw pile.

The next player then takes their turn. The game does not say if play passes clockwise or counterclockwise.

Rose Tokens

Sometimes there will be a round where you are positive you know how the current player will respond. In these situations you will want to use your Rose Token. You can only use your Rose Tokens on other players’ turns.

If you want to use your Rose Token you will place it underneath your Answer Token in your hand. When the current player reveals their answer you will take an action based on whether you matched them or not.

Should you match the current player, you get to move two spaces instead of one due to using your Rose Token.

Using a Rose Token
One of the players decided to use their Rose Token. They ended up matching the current player, so they will get to move two spaces instead of one.

If you did not match the current player, you have the opportunity to try and convince them that your answer is actually correctly. If you convince them, you get to move forward one space even though you didn’t initially match them.

Whether you matched the current player or not, you will place your Rose token on the matching space near the Rose Apothecary. When you land on or pass the Rose Apothecary, you get to take back your Rose Token. If you still have your Rose Token when you reach this space, you don’t get to take another token.

Placing Rose Token on board
After using their Rose Token, the player places the Rose Token on the corresponding spot on the gameboard.

Winning the Game

The game ends when one or more players reach the Finish space. Any player that reaches the Finish space wins Schitt’s Creek Love That Journey.
