Objective

The objective of Oddly Obvious! is to be the first team or player to collect five cards.

Setup

  • Decide if you are going to play in teams or individually. If there are three or less players, you should play individually. If there are four or more players, you should divide into two teams.
  • Choose a player to act as the host during the game. They will read the clues, and give out tokens.
  • All of the players should sit where they can see the front of the card at the same time.
  • The players decide whether they are going to play the A or B rounds on each card. The players will use the same round throughout the game.

How to Play Oddly Obvious

Each round begins with the host taking a card and putting it in the card stand. The card should be placed so the host can see the A and B rounds on the back of the card. The rest of the players should see the various words written on the other side of the card.

The host begins by reading the first clue on the side corresponding to the letter chosen by the players.

Read off clue
The players have decided to play the A side of the cards. The host begins the round by reading off “A stork for the bigger babies.”

After the host reads the clue, the players look at all of the words printed on their side of the card. One of these words is the answer to the clue that the host just read. Some of these are obvious, while others are more abstract.

Find the correct answer
The current clue is “A stork for bigger babies.” The correct answer is crane. Each player tries to find the correct answer before the other players.

When you think you know the answer, say it out loud. If you are correct, the host gives you one of the tokens. If you guess wrong, you can’t make another guess. The other players can still make a guess.

Receiving a token
The first player to say crane (the correct answer) receives one of the tokens.

After the first clue is finished, the host reads off the second clue. This clue is handled the same way as the first clue. This process is continued for the other three clues on the card.

After all five clues are given, the teams/players will count up how tokens they collected during the round. The player/team that collected the most tokens, takes the round’s card.

Winning the round
The top team earned three of the tokens while the other team received two tokens. The top team got more tokens, so they get to take the round’s card.

All of the tokens are then returned to the host. Another round is then played with a new card.

Winning the Game

The players will continue playing rounds until one team/player collects five cards. The first player/team to collect five cards wins Oddly Obvious!.

Winning Oddly Obvious!
One of the teams have collected five cards. They have won the game.
