Looking for specific Monopoly Go To Jail Expansion rules? | Changes to Normal Monopoly | Setup | Jail | Super Jail | Corruption Cards | Super Corruption Cards | Escape Die | Heist Die |
Monopoly Go To Jail Expansion is an addition to the original Monopoly. You need an original Monopoly in order to use the expansion. If you are looking for the rules for the other two Monopoly Expansions, you can find them here: Monopoly Buy Everything Rules, Monopoly Free Parking Jackpot.
Changes to Normal Monopoly
Most of the rules from normal Monopoly are the same when using the Monopoly Go To Jail Expansion. There are a few changes though which I will detail below.
The game ends in one of two ways. First the game can end when all of the properties are owned. Otherwise the game will end when one player goes bankrupt. To determine the winner you will figure out each player’s current wealth. Should you be in Jail or Super Jail at the end of the game, you cannot win the game even if you have the most cash. Therefore you can skip the steps below.
Each player collects money from the Bank equal to the rent they can charge from each property that they own. You will either collect the amount printed on the space itself, or a higher amount if you own the complete color set or have a House(s)/Hotel on the property.
Combine this rent to the money you had on hand at the end of the game. The player with the most money, wins Monopoly Go To Jail Expansion.
Setup for Monopoly Go To Jail Expansion
The first time you play the expansion, punch out all of the cardboard pieces. Insert the Go to Jail spaces into the plastic space clips. Attach the stickers to the two dice. Attach the three red and three orange stickers to one of the dice. Place the four blue and two orange stickers to the other die.
In addition to the setup for normal Monopoly, you will have to complete these additional setup steps when using the Monopoly Go To Jail Expansion.
- Return all of the Chance and Community Chest cards to the box. They aren’t used when using this expansion.
- Attach the Super Jail gameboard attachment so it covers up the Go to Jail space.
- Attach the Jail gameboard attachment so it covers up the In Jail space.
- Separate the Corruption and Super Corruption cards. Shuffle each deck separately.
- Deal two Corruption cards to each player. Place the rest of the cards facedown on the corresponding spot on Jail.
- Shuffle the Super Corruption cards. Place them facedown on the Super Jail space.
- Attach the Go to Jail space attachments so they cover up the Luxury Tax and Income Tax spaces.
- Place the Escape die (has the red stickers) on the space where the Chance deck would normally be.
- Place the Heist die (has the blue stickers) on the space where the Community Chest deck would normally be.
- The players roll the number dice. Whoever rolls the highest starts the game.

Jail
Whenever you land on any of the Go to Jail spaces, you will immediately move your token to the Jail space. The game makes no mention either way whether you still go to Jail if you roll doubles three times on your turn.

You can still do the following things while in Jail.
- Collect rent
- Bid in auctions
- Buy Houses and Hotels
- Mortgage properties
- Trade with other players.
- Play Corruption and Super Corruption cards.
For each turn you are in Jail, you will draw a Corruption card. You will add the card to your hand, but you can’t use it until your next turn.
The rules for getting out of Jail differ from normal Monopoly. You can only get out of Jail by paying M100 to the Bank. After you pay the Bank, you will roll the die and move off the Corruption space. Unlike normal Monopoly, you cannot get out of Jail by rolling doubles.
It is your choice when you want to leave Jail. You can pay the Bank on your first turn in Jail, and immediately start moving around the board again. Otherwise you could choose to stay in Jail for a while in order to draw more Corruption cards. You can only stay in Jail for up to three turns. After your third turn, you have to pay the Bank M100 and move off the space on your next turn by rolling the die.

Super Jail
The only way to go to Super Jail is for another player to send you there. This is mostly done through the play of Corruption cards.

When you are in Super Jail you can still take the following actions:
- Collect rent
- Bid in auctions
- Buy Houses and Hotels
- Mortgage properties
- Trade with other players
- Use Corruption and Super Corruption cards
For each turn you spend in Super Jail, you will draw a Super Corruption card.
You can get out of Super Jail in one of two ways.
First you can pay M300 to the player that sent you to Super Jail. You must pay them at the start of a turn.
Otherwise you can choose to give the player who sent you to Super Jail all of the Super Corruption cards you drew while in Super Jail. You must give them the cards at the start of the turn you want to leave.

Unlike normal Monopoly, you cannot get out of Super Jail by rolling doubles.
You can choose to stay in Super Jail for up to three turns. After you third turn in jail, you either need to pay the M300 or give up all of the Super Corruption cards you drew while in Super Jail.
After you leave Super Jail you will then roll the die and move the corresponding number of spaces. Ignore the Go to Jail space when moving out of Super Jail.

Corruption Cards
To begin the game each player receives two Corruption cards. Corruption cards allow you to mess with the normal rules of the game giving you additional powers. You can acquire additional Corruption cards in a number of different ways:
- When you go to Jail.
- When you pass or land on the Corruption/Jail space.
- Each turn you stay in Jail, you take another Corruption card.
- You can acquire Corruption cards by trading or stealing them from other players.
Normally you can only play Corruption cards on your own turn. There are some cards though that specifically say that you can play them on other players turns. You may not play a Corruption card on the turn that you acquire it. When you play one of the cards, you will place it on the bottom of the Corruption deck.

There is normally no limit to the number of Corruption and Super Corruption cards you can have in your hand. The game does recommend for beginner players though, to add a limit of six Corruption and/or Super Corruption cards. If you would draw additional cards, you will choose a card to discard before you draw one. This is completely optional though, You can choose to not have a limit on the number of cards you can have in your hand.

Super Corruption Cards
Super Corruption Cards can only be acquired when you are in Super Jail. Each turn you are in Super Jail, you get to draw one Super Corruption card.
When you play a Super Corruption card, you will place it on the bottom of the Super Corruption deck.
Escape Die
Whenever you land on a Chance space, you will roll the Escape die (has red sides) instead of drawing a Chance card. What you roll on the die determines what action you will take.
If you roll the red symbol with two hands and money, you successfully escaped the law. You will collect a number of Corruption cards equal to the number you rolled. The rules don’t specify what this means. I assume you roll one of the number dice, and take the corresponding number of cards.

Should you roll the orange side with a police officer, you are caught. You immediately go to regular Jail (not Super Jail).

Heist Die
Whenever you land on a Community Chest space, you will attempt a bank robbery. Roll the Heist die (has blue sides) instead of drawing a Community Chest card. What you roll on the die determines what action you will take.
Should you roll one of the blue sides on the die, you succeeded in your bank heist. Take the corresponding amount of money from the Bank.

When you roll the orange police officer side, you are caught. Immediately go to regular Jail (not Super Jail).
