Monopoly Free Parking Jackpot is an expansion for Monopoly. You need a normal edition of Monopoly (any year) in order to use it. The game changes some of the rules for Monopoly, while also adding some new rules regarding the Free Parking space. If you are interested in the other two Monopoly Expansions you can find the rules here: Monopoly Buy Everything, Monopoly Go to Jail.

Changes to Normal Monopoly Rules

For the most part you will follow the normal rules of Monopoly when using the Monopoly Free Parking Jackpot expansion. There are a couple small changes to the rules though. I will detail these rule changes below.

To determine the start player, each player rolls the dice. Whichever player rolls highest starts the game. Play passes clockwise/left during the game.

Spaces

Each turn you roll the dice and move the corresponding number of spaces clockwise around the board. The space you land on determines what action you will take. For most spaces you will take the same action as the normal game. There are a couple unique rules when utilizing this expansion though.

When you owe money to the Bank, you will usually pay the money to the Free Parking space instead of the Bank. See the Jackpot space below for more details.

If you ever land on a property you own or a Spin space, you will spin the spinner on the Free Parking expansion. For more details on the spinner, see the corresponding section below.

Land on Spin Space
The hat player landed on a Spin space. They will spin the spinner on the Free Parking space and take the corresponding action.

If you land on a property owned by another player, the other player has a choice to make. They can either charge you rent, or take a Spin chip from the Bank.

Landing on a property owned by another player
The car player landed on Virginia Ave which was owned by another player. The owner can either charge rent, or they can take a Spin Token.

Should you land on the Free Parking space, you will take a series of actions. See the Free Parking Space section below for more details.

After you complete the action from the space you landed on, you can choose to use Bonus cards or Spin chips.

End of Game

The game ends when either all of the properties are owned, or one of the players have gone bankrupt. To determine the winner, each player collects money from the Bank for each property they own. You will collect money equal to the amount printed on the space for each property. If you own the complete color set or have Houses/Hotels on a property, you will collect money equal to the higher rent that the property is worth.

All of the players count up their total cash. The player with the most cash wins the game.

Setup

If you haven’t used the expansion yet, you need to complete a few steps.

  1. Punch out all of the cardboard pieces.
  2. Insert the Spin spaces into the plastic attachment pieces.
  3. Attach the plastic arrow to the spinner section of the board attachment.

First you will complete the normal setup instructions for Monopoly. Then to use the expansion you must follow these additional setup instructions.

  • All Chance and Community Chest cards are returned to the box as they won’t be used if you use the Monopoly Free Parking Jackpot expansion.
  • Attach the gameboard attachment onto the Monopoly board so the Free Parking space is covered up.
  • Place the Deal Mobile (gold car) on the Free Parking space.
  • Shuffle the Free Parking Bonus cards. Deal two to each player. The rest of the cards should be placed next to the spinner on the corresponding space.
  • Clip one of the Spin spaces onto the board to cover up each Community Chest and Chance space.
  • Give each player two of the Spin Chips. The rest of the chips should be placed in a pile next to the board.
Setup for Monopoly Free Parking Jackpot

The Jackpot

During the game whenever you would have to pay money to the Bank, you will most likely owe it to the Free Parking space instead. You will put the money you owe on Free Parking in the following situations:

  • You pay to purchase a property from the Bank (not from other players).
  • You pay to purchase Houses and Hotels
  • Whenever you pay to get out of Jail.

If you should need change, you can exchange money with the Bank to get the money you need.

Free Parking Space

When you land on the Free Parking space by exact count, you will get to take a couple special actions.

  1. You will draw a Bonus card.
  2. Take all of the money placed on the Jackpot section of the Free Parking space.
  3. Swap your token with the Deal Mobile. The next time you move, you will move the Deal Mobile instead of your normal token. You will leave your token on the Free Parking space.
Landing on Free Parking
The dog player has landed on the Free Parking Space. They will take a Bonus card, all of the money from the Jackpot space, and will get to use the Deal Mobile.

Free Parking Spinner

You could end up spinning the Free Parking Spinner in a couple different situations.

  • Use a Spin chip.
  • Land on a Spin space.
  • Land on a property that you own.
  • You draw a Bonus card that tells you to spin the spinner.

After spinning the spinner, you will take the action corresponding to what you spun.

If you land on a red section you will owe the corresponding amount to the Jackpot section on the Free Parking space.

Spinning red on the spinner
The current player spun one of the red sections on the spinner. They will have to pay M150 to the Jackpot.

If it lands on a green section, you will take the action printed on the section. Should the section tell you to take money, you will take the money from the Jackpot section on the Free Parking space.

Spinning green on the spinner
The current player spun Buy Any 1 unowned property on the spinner. They can choose one of the properties not owned by another player, and purchase it.

Every time you spin the spinner, you get to take a Bonus card.

Deal Mobile

You will acquire the Deal Mobile in the following situations:

  • You land on the Free Parking space by exact count.
  • You spin Deal Mobile on the spinner.
  • Some of the Bonus cards give you control of the Deal Mobile.

When you take control of the Deal Mobile, you will use the gold car token instead of your normal token. You will leave your normal token on the Free Parking space.

While moving with the Deal Mobile you have a couple special actions that you can take:

  • Should you land on an unowned property, you can take it for free.
  • When you land on another player’s property, you don’t have to pay them rent.
  • You still have to pay for Houses, Hotels and other items though.
Using the Deal Mobile
The current player landed on Boardwalk with the Deal Mobile. Since they are using the Deal Mobile, they don’t have to pay rent to the owner of the property.

You will eventually lose control of the Deal Mobile. You can lose control in the following situations:

  • You are sent to Jail. Return the Deal Mobile to the Free Parking space and place your normal piece on Jail.
  • Should another player land on Free Parking, spin to take the Deal Mobile, or use a Bonus card to take the Deal Mobile; you will lose control of the Deal Mobile. You will replace the Deal Mobile with your own token. The other player then takes the Deal Mobile.

Spin Chips

During the game you can acquire Spin chips in two ways:

  • Bonus card
  • You choose to bypass collecting rent when another player lands on your space. You will collect the Spin chip from the Bank.

There is no limit to the number of Spin chips you can have. You can sell, purchase or trade Spin chips with other players.

On each of your turns you can choose to use a Spin chip in order to spin the Free Parking spinner. To spin the spinner you will pay the chip to the Bank. You will then spin the spinner and take the corresponding action. You can choose to use multiple Spin chips on your turn.

Using a Spin chip
The current player decided to use one of their Spin chips. They spun the spinner and it landed on Jackpot. They will take all of the money on the Jackpot space.
Free Parking Bonus Cards

Free Parking Bonus Cards

When you draw a Bonus card, you will read what it says on the card. Unless the card specifically tells you that you can keep the card, you must play the card immediately and take the corresponding action.

You can play as many Bonus cards as you want on your turn. There is no limit on the number of Bonus cards you can have at a time.

Once you play a Bonus card for its action, you will shuffle it back into the deck.
