Monopoly Deal Harry Potter Point Cards

Monopoly Deal Harry Potter Point Cards

These cards are only used to add money to your Bank. When you play them, your Bank increases by the amount printed in the top corner.

Monopoly Deal Harry Potter Magical Item Card

Magical Item Cards

Magical item cards can only be played in front of you to try and create sets. Each set consists of cards of the same color.

The number in the top left corner is how much the card is worth when you give it to another player to settle a debt. For the Felix Felicis card pictured above, it is worth four points when you give it to another player.

In the middle of the cards there are card symbols with numbers to the right. When someone else is forced to pay you for the set, you first look for the number of card symbols that match the number of cards of that color that you have in front of you. The number to the right of the symbols is how many points they owe you.

For example lets look at the Felix Felicis card pictured above. If you only have one blue card, the other players will owe you three points if they are forced to pay based on the card. If you have two blue cards, they will have to pay eight points.

The highest number of cards pictured indicates how many of the cards you need to play in order to complete the set.

Complete set in Monopoly Deal Harry Potter
The black set of cards has four cards. As this player has collected all four cards, they have completed the set.
Wild Item Cards

Wild Item Cards

Wild item cards are similar to magical item cards, except that they don’t belong to a specific color. When you play the card, you choose what color to make it. You can add it to one of your sets that you are currently building.

At any time during the game you can change the color of a wild item card that you have played in front of you. You must change its color during your turn though. Changing the color does not count as playing one of your three cards during your turn.

Wild item cards cannot be placed in your Bank, and you cannot use them to create a set larger than the maximum size of a set. These cards can be used to create their own set though.

For the two color wild cards, you can only choose one of the two colors printed on the card. You should turn the card so the color you have chosen is at the top of the card. You should place the card next to any other cards that you have that match the chosen color. It is possible to create an entire set using these cards.

The every color wild is a pure wild. You can choose whatever color you want for the card. You should place it with any other cards you have that match the color you chose for the card. Wild Item Cards can’t be used as points when giving them to another player. Players are not allowed to create an entire set with every color wild cards.

Monopoly Deal Harry Potter Spell Cards

Accio card

Accio

Each Accio card features a number of colors on it. You will choose one of the colors. Some of these cards are wild allowing you to choose any of the colors. Count up how many cards you have of the associated color in front of you. Every other player owes you points equal to the points next to the number of cards you have of the chosen color.

Using an Accio card
A player used the Accio card pictured above. They chose orange. They have two orange cards, so they will look at the number to the right of the two cards symbol. Each of the other players owe this player three points.
Alohomora card

Alohomora

That player can’t use the ability from their character card while the Petrificus Totalus card is on it. To get rid of the Petrificus Totalus card you need to discard cards equal to at least 10 points during your turn. Discarding cards do not count towards the cards you can play on your turn.

Using the Petrificus Totalus card
A player decided to use the Petrificus Totalus card against the Draco player. The Draco player can’t use their ability until they pay 10 points.
Protego card

Protego

Protego cards act as a defense against other players playing Spell cards against you. When someone plays a Spell card against you, you can choose to play a Protego card from your hand to block its effect. You can do this even if it is not your turn.

Using a Protego card
A player has used an Accio card and has chosen blue. They have two blue cards, so everyone else owes them eight points. One of the players has a Protego card, which they choose to play to avoid having to pay. The rest of the players still have to pay the eight points though.

When a player plays a Protego card, it only protects them. For example another player played a Accio card. The player that plays the Protego card doesn’t have to pay points, but the rest of the players still have to.

Should a player play a Protego card, another player can play their own Protego card to cancel out the original Protego card. The player that played the first Protego card will once against be affected by the Spell card played against them.

2 Questions. 1. For the Harry Potter card when do you declare the color you’re protecting? 2. Reparo: “Take any one card from the discard pile & place it in front of you.” Am I placing it in my hand? In my bank? I take the Obliviate card, what am I doing with it?

I will preface this by saying that I am not the designer of the game so these aren't official answers. The rules for the game don't go into a lot of details in certain areas either.

For the Harry Potter card, the only information the game gives is what is printed on the card. The cards says "Use this card to stop all items you have in any one color from being taken." It gives no indication on when you choose the color and if you can change it. While it doesn't say anything about switching your color, I would guess you could. Harry Potter is arguably the weakest card to start with, and would be even weaker if you had to commit to one color and not be able to change it. At the same time I don't think you should be able to change the color at anytime. Otherwise you could use it to prevent players from stealing any card, as you could just change the color before they take any card. I think a good compromise is that you can change the color during your turn. The color you choose is protected until your next turn. You can then either keep the same color, or change it to a new color on your next turn. This is just how I would handle it though, and is not an official answer.

The rules don't give any information about the Reparo card either outside what is printed on the card. Based on how the card is written, you could interpret it to mean that you have to add the Obliviate card to your Bank as that would be putting it in front of you. By the literal interpretation of the Reparo card, I would say that you add it to the Bank. I am wondering if this was poorly written though. By the spirit of the card, I could see adding it to your hand. If you take a spell card, you likely would want it for its effect. It basically comes down to if you want to go by what is literally written on the Reparo card, or if you want to go by the spirit of the card. I could see using either interpretation. I would recommend the players come to an agreement on how you use the card.
