Monopoly Buy Everything Expansion Board Game: Rules for How to Play

Looking for specific Monopoly Buy Everything Expansion rules?  |  Changes to the Original Game  | Setup | Buy Die | Sale Cards | Purchasing New Spaces |

Monopoly Buy Everything Expansion is an expansion for the original Monopoly. You need an original version of Monopoly (any year) in order to play the game. The game adds some new mechanics to the game, and also changes some of the rules. If you are interested in the other two Monopoly Expansions you can find the rules here: Monopoly Free Parking Jackpot, Monopoly Go to Jail.

Changes to Original Monopoly

Most of the rules from the original Monopoly are the same if you decide to use the Monopoly Buy Everything Expansion. There are a few small tweaks to the gameplay though. I will detail these changes below.

On each of your turns you will roll the two number dice and move the corresponding number of spaces clockwise around the gameboard. You will then take an action based on what space you landed on. This is the same as normal Monopoly except if you land on one of the corner spaces, Chance, Community Chance, Luxury Tax, and Income Tax. When you land on one of these spaces, you will either be able to purchase them, or you may owe rent to the player that owns them.

After you have finished moving and taking the action corresponding to the space you landed on, you will roll the Buy die (the die exclusive to the expansion). You can choose not to roll the die if you don’t want to. You will then take an action based on what you rolled. See the Buy die section below for more details on what each side of the die does. Should you end up purchasing a Sale card, you can’t use it until the start of your next turn.

Play then passes to the player on your left/clockwise.

The game can end in one of two ways.

The game ends whenever a player completes an instant-win Sale card (see below). In this case, whoever completed the card wins the game.

Automatically winning due to Instant-Win card
This player has the Scavenge for Success instant-win card. This player owns a railroad, corner space, utility, and tax space. They will immediately win the game.

Otherwise the game ends when all of the properties are owned by a player. The players will count up the rent they would receive from all of their properties if a player would land on them. They will collect the corresponding amount of money from the Bank. You will combine this with the money you had at the end of the game. The player with the most total money wins the game.

Setup

The first time you play the game you will have to apply the stickers to the different sides of the die.

In addition to the normal setup rules for Monopoly you will have to follow these setup instructions as well.

  • Each player receives the following cash from the Bank (this is different than normal Monopoly) :
    • 5 – M1
    • 1 – M5
    • 3 – M10
    • 3 – M20
    • 3 – M50
    • 4 – M100
    • 3 – M500
  • Place the Sale Vault onto the base so it can turn. Set the Sale Vault in the middle of the gameboard.
  • Separate the Sale cards from the Title Deed cards. Add the Title Deed cards to the Title Deed cards from the original game.
  • Shuffle the Sale cards. Take the top three cards and place them in the spaces on the Sale Vault. The cards should face outwards so all of the players can see them.
  • Place the rest of the Sale cards next to the Sale Vault.
  • Each player takes a reminder card.
  • Place the Buy die next to the number dice from the original game.
Setup for Monopoly Buy Everything

Buy Die

After you have rolled the standard dice, moved your playing piece, and taken the corresponding action; you have the option of rolling the Buy die. This is optional, so you can choose not to roll the die if you don’t want to. You will usually want to roll the die since most of the time it is beneficial. Once you roll the die you will take a special action based on what you rolled.

Buy Die symbol

When you roll the above symbol, you have the ability to purchase one of the Sale cards from the Sale Vault in the middle of the gameboard. See the Sale Cards section below for more details.

Discard Sale Card symbol

Should you roll the red x shown above, you will choose another player. You will choose one of the Sale cards that player currently has and discard it. You get to choose what card gets discarded. The player who is about to lose a Sale card can try to make a deal with you to try and stop you from discarding the card. If you want to take whatever deal they offer, you can take it instead of discarding the chosen Sale card.

Remove Sale card from Sale Vault symbol

When you roll the yellow symbol with two arrows on it, you will choose one of the Sale cards currently in the Sale Vault to discard. After discarding the chosen card, you will replace it with the top card from the Sale card deck.

Sale Cards

Each Sale card you acquire is placed face up in front of you. At any time you can own up to three Sale cards. Should you already have three Sale cards and want another one, you first have to discard one of your current Sale cards before you can acquire another one. To acquire a card, you must pay the Bank the amount printed in the top left corner.

There are three types of Sale cards in the game.

All unique single-use Sale cards

The first type of Sale cards are single-use cards. You will keep the card until you want to use it. You can use the card at any time during your own turn. When you use the card, you will take the corresponding action. After you have taken the action, you will discard the single-use card.

All instant-win Sale cards

The second type of cards are instant-win cards. These cards give you an additional way of winning the game. Should you ever complete what is printed on the card, you immediately win the game.

Instantly winning with the Victory Lap card
One of the players owns the Victory Lap instant-win Sale card. They own Boardwalk, and they have a Hotel on it. They immediately win the game.
All of the ability Sale cards

The final type of cards are ability cards. Once you acquire one of these cards, you can use its ability for as long as you have the card.

Purchasing New Spaces

One of the biggest changes that Monopoly Buy Everything Expansion adds to the game is that you can now purchase every space on the gameboard. The expansion adds the ability to purchase the following spaces:

  • GO
  • Free Parking
  • Just Visiting
  • Go to Jail
  • Income Tax
  • Luxury Tax
  • Chance
  • Community Chest

When you land on one of these spaces and no one owns them, you have the option of purchasing them. The cost to purchase them is printed in the top left corner of the corresponding Title Deed card. If you purchase the space you will pay the Bank, and then take the corresponding Title Deed card.

Purchasing Free Parking
The hat player has landed on Free Parking. They decide to purchase it. They will pay M125 to the Bank and then they will take the Free Parking Title Deed.

If you choose not to purchase the space, the Bank will auction off the property. Whoever bids the most gets to purchase the Title Deed for the amount they bid.

Each of these new properties work mostly the same as the original properties. For the corner spaces, you will charge rent based on the number of corner spaces you own.

Paying rent on a corner space
The dog player landed on GO which is owned by another player. The player also owns Free Parking and Go to Jail. Since the owner owns three corner spaces, the dog player owes the owner M600.

Unlike normal Title Deed cards, you cannot mortgage these new Title Deeds. You can sell or trade them to other players though.

Some of these new Title Deeds have additional rules that apply when someone lands on them. See the corresponding sections below to see the special ability of each new Title Deed.

Chance Title Deed card

Chance

When a player owns the Chance space, they will take a special action whenever anyone lands on a Chance space. The player that owns Chance draws two Chance cards. They will choose one of the cards for the player that landed on the space. They will place the other card on the bottom of the Chance deck.

Community Chest Title Deed card

Community Chest

When a player owns Community Chest, they will get to take a special action whenever anyone lands on a Community Chest space. The player that owns Community Chest draws two Community Chest cards. They choose one card that the player that landed on the space gets to take. They will add the other card to the bottom of the Community Chest deck.

Go to Jail Title Deed card

Go To Jail

Should a player own the Go to Jail space, whenever a player pays M50 to get out of jail, they will pay the player that owns the Go to Jail space instead of the Bank.

Income Tax Title Deed card

Income Tax

If you own the Income Tax space, you will receive money from anyone who lands on the space. You will earn M25 for each Title Deed that the player who landed on the space owns.

Should you own Income Tax and Luxury Tax, you will receive M50 for each Title Deed owned by the player that landed on Income Tax.

If you have an All the Deeds card, how do Auctions work? Also how does the The Bank card work?

The instructions don't specifically say what happens with the All the Deeds card during auctions. As the rules don't specify otherwise, I would say that you stick to what the card says. It says that you get all properties for free, and other players pay you when they buy properties. Basically if you want the property, you will get it since you can always bid higher than the other players since you don't actually have to pay for your bid. If you don't want the property though, you could bid it up and let another player win it. If another player wins the auction, they will then have to pay you the amount they bid. This is just how I would handle the situation as the rules don't specify how to handle the card during auctions.

If you have The Bank card, you basically treat the Bank's money as your own personal money. You set aside your own personal cash as you won't need to use it until you lose The Bank card. Basically whenever you have to pay for something, you use the Bank's cash. For example you owe rent to another player, you will pay them with the Bank's money. Whenever you collect money, you add it to your own personal cash that you set aside when you took The Bank card.

I don’t have the original version of the game, but have the Singapore edition. Can I use the three expansion packs on the Singapore edition game board?

As long as the board/properties are basically the same as the English version of the game, I don't see why you couldn't use the expansion packs with other versions of Monopoly.

I see no reason why you couldn't use the expansions with the Mega edition of Monopoly. You may need to slightly tweak some of the rules due to the board having more spaces though.

For the Buy Everything expansion you won't be able to buy some of the unique spaces exclusive to the Mega edition though.

I understand you roll the dice. Then do whatever is required for where you landed. It is unclear when I can use my red sale cards. It says the next round after you purchase it, if you choose to,. How've it says play anytime. Soooo, can I play it after I roll the expansion die or is the expansions die the very last thing you do on your turn. The directions say to "roll it AFTER you roll the regular dice and do what is required for the space you land on. So it is unclear when to buy hotels, play the yellow or red cars because anytime could be before or after you roll the expansion die because it says to v roll the expiation die right after you move and do what is required where you land. So which is it, after you roll and the do what you are too do where you land and then roll the expansion or it is the very last thing you do to end your turn?

For the most part you can play the red Sale Cards whenever you want on your turn. It depends on what is written on the card for when you should use them. For example the Jet Pack card should be used before you move your playing piece as it lets you move to any space instead of what you rolled on the die. The All the 50s, Deed Grabber, Free Real Estate, and Instant Monopoly cards can be used any time on your turn. The Instant Auction card is less clear. It doesn't say that you use the card instead of your roll, but it also seems kind of unfair that you can use the card to move twice on your turn. The players playing the game will have to decide if you need to use the card instead of your normal movement, or if you can use it to move twice on your turn.

The one exception is that you can't use the red cards on the turn you purchase them. Basically the game doesn't let you buy a card and then use it immediately. You have to wait until at least your next turn to use it.

Yellow cards you don't really play. You can keep using the card as long as you have it. When you use the cards kind of depends on what is written on the card. The All the Buildings, All the Deeds, The Bank, Gold Hard Hat, The Number 7, and The Vault cards are always active on your turn and the other players turns. The Buy Die card is active when you roll the Buy die.

As for buying Houses/Hotels, and other actions the rules aren't super clear if you have to do these actions before or after you roll the Buy Die. Therefore I would say let the players agree on whether you can take these actions after you roll the Buy Die, or if you have to do them before rolling the Buy Die.

I hope this answers your question. If you have any other questions feel free to leave another comment.
