Objective

The objective of Guesstures Bible Edition is to score more points than the other team by acting out and guessing words.

Setup

  • The players should divide into two teams. If there is an odd number of players, one team will have one extra player.
  • Each team should come up with a name and write it down on the score side of the Mimer Timer with a crayon.
  • Set the Mimer Timer on a table. Open up the arm. Push the switch up and wind the knob clockwise as far as it will go.
  • Decide which team will start the game. The chosen team chooses which of their players will be the first Actor. The two teams will alternate turns. Both will get the same number of turns.

How to Play Guesstures Bible Edition

The game consists of two scenes. First the players will play scene one which uses the green cards. The two teams will take turns having one of their players play as the Actor. All of the players will get one turn as the Actor. If one team has less players, one player on their team gets to be the Actor twice.

Choosing the Words to Play

The current actor draws four green cards. They will look at the cards without letting the other players see. Some of the words/phrases are worth one point while others are worth three points. The three point words are more difficult than the one point words.

Choosing which words to play in Guesstures Bible Edition
The current actor drew these four cards. They need to decide which of the two words on each card they will try to get their teammates to guess.

For each card you draw you will choose which of the two words/phrases you want to play. Once you have chosen which words you want to use, you will place them in the Mimer Timer. You should place the card that you think is easiest nearest the hinge where it says easy. This card has the least time for you to give clues about it. You will continue placing the cards in order from the easiest to hardest. The words should be placed so they are visible to the Actor.

Placing cards in the Mimer Timer
This player has chosen the four words they will play. They think fifteen will be the easiest card for their teammates to guess so they put it in the first slot. Then they placed draw, chimney, and ant.

When you are ready you will close the Mimer Timer. This starts the timer.

Acting Out the Words

You will start with the card on the left. You will try to act out the word/phrase in a way to get your teammates to guess it. When acting there are some rules that you must follow:

  • You cannot makes sounds or say words.
  • Props and other visual aids are allowed. You can point to parts of the body or people/objects in the room.
  • You can mouth words if you make no sound and the word you are mouthing is not the word that the players are trying to guess.
  • Any techniques that you can use in Charades are allowed in Guesstures Bible Edition.
Acting out the word fifteen
The actor’s first word is fifteen. They will have to try and act out the word in a way that their teammates will guess it. They could simulate counting up to 15, or if there is a 15 somewhere in the room, they could point to it.

While you are acting, your teammates will try to guess what you are acting out. Only your teammates can guess. No player from the other team may make a guess. As soon as someone guesses the word/phrase, you should grab the card as quickly as possible.  Forms of the word on the card, should be counted as a match. For example Praising is a match for Praises. You need to grab the card before it falls into the Mimer Timer in order to score points from it.

Grabbing a card
This actor was able to get their teammates to guess fifteen, so they grab the card before it falls into the Mimer Timer.

Once you grab the first card or it falls into the Mimer Timer, you move onto the next card. This continues for all four cards.

Scoring

After the timer runs out or the player grabs the last card, the current turn ends. The player now looks at the cards that their teammates were able to guess and grab in time. Each card is worth points equal to the number printed near the word/phrase. Add up the points for each card you guessed right. Put the corresponding number of points in your team’s Scene 1 section of the scoreboard.

Scoring in Guesstures Bible Edition
This actor was able to get their teammates to guess fifteen (one point), draw (one point), and chimney (three points). Their team scores five points this turn.

Lift up the Mimer Timer and pick up any cards that fell inside. These cards along with the cards you correctly guessed are placed in the back of the corresponding section of the card box.

A player on the other team then takes their turn as the Actor in the same way as the first Actor.

Scene Two

The players will keep taking turns acting out cards for Scene 1. This continues until all of the players have been the Actor once. If one team has one less player, one player on that team gets to be the Actor twice.

The players will then play Scene Two. Scene Two is played basically the same as Scene One. The only difference is that you will use the yellow cards. The words/phrases on these cards are worth either two or four points. During this scene you will write your scores in the Scene 2 section of the scoreboard.

Winning the Game

The game ends when all of the players have been an Actor once in Scene Two.

Both teams total up the points they scored in the game. The team that scored more points wins the game.

Winning the game
During the game team one scored a total of 34 points, while team two scored 36 points. Since team two scored more points, they have won the game.

You should wipe off the scoreboard with a soft cloth to clean off the crayon marker.
