Setup
- Sort the cards by the color on the back of the cards.
- Each player draws ten red cards. You can look at your own cards, but you shouldn’t show them to the other players.
- The youngest player starts the game as the judge.
How to Play Grounded for Life
Each round begins with the current judge drawing the top blue card from the deck. They will read the card out loud to all of the players. Then place the card on the table so all of the players can see it.

Everyone except for the judge then has to choose one of the red cards from their hand to play this round. When choosing which card to play, you are looking for a card that will be funny played along with the blue card. Since the judge makes the final decision, you want to pick a card that you think the judge will think is funny.

When you have chosen your card for the round, you will place it facedown on the table. Once everyone has chosen their card for the round, the judge picks up all of the played cards. Without looking at the cards, they will shuffle the submitted cards so they don’t know who played each card.
The judge then reads out the blue card and then each of the submitted red cards. After reading off all of the played cards, they will choose which of the cards they think is the funniest when paired with the blue card. The player that submitted the red card that the judge chose gets to take the blue card used this round.

Everyone who played a card this round then draws a new red card so they have a total of ten red cards in their hand. The player to the left of the judge becomes the judge for the next round.
Winning the Game
The game ends when one of the players have acquired enough blue cards. The number of blue cards needed to win the game depends on the numbers of players.
| # of Players | Blue Cards Needed to Win |
| 3 | 7 |
| 4-5 | 5 |
| 6-10 | 4 |
When a player has acquired enough blue cards, they win Grounded for Life.

If you would like to play a shorter game, the players can agree before the game starts to a lower number of blue cards required to win the game.
