Setup

  • The players should choose whether they are going to be on the Chicken or Hotdog team. If there are two players, one player should play on both teams. If there are more than two players, the players should divide evenly between the two teams. Each team takes the character that matches their team.
  • Separate the cards by their types. Each team takes all of the Bidding Cards and Character Cards that match their team.
  • Each team lays out the Character Cards in front of them to recreate the image of their character. All of the cards should be placed so the grey side is face up.
  • Each team shuffles their Bidding Cards and draws four of them. Each team can look at their cards, but shouldn’t show them to the other team. The rest of the cards form a draw pile.
  • Shuffle the Challenge Cards and place them facedown on the table.

How to Play Chicken vs Hotdog

To begin each turn one of the player’s flip over the top card from the Challenge Card deck. Each card details a challenge that the players will have to complete.

Challenge card
For this challenge the players will have to flip their Sling’em with both hands.

Bidding

Each team looks at their current Bidding Cards and determines which card they want to play. If you think you can complete the challenge from the card, you should play a high card. When you have chosen which card you want to play, you will place it facedown on the table.

Choose a bidding card
The chicken team is pretty confident that they can complete the challenge. They choose to play their four Bidding Card.

When both teams have chosen their card, they will flip them over. The cards are compared. Whichever team played the highest card gets to try and complete the challenge.

Compare Bidding Cards
The two teams have revealed their Bidding Cards. Since the chicken/blue team played a higher card, they will get the chance to complete the challenge.

Should both teams bid the same amount, they will compete in a Flipperama. Both teams will flip their character as quickly as possible. They are trying to get their character to flip once in the air and then land with the bottom on the table. The first team to complete two single flips gets to choose which team will try to complete the challenge. If there are more than one player on a team, once a player completes one of the single flips, one of the other players on the team have to complete the other single flip.

Attempting the Challenge

The team that bids higher then tries to complete the challenge from the card. Sometimes you will have just one attempt to try and complete the challenge. Some challenges give you a couple of attempts. The number of attempts is printed in the top left corner of the card. If there are multiple players on a team, the players have to alternate taking turns trying to complete challenges. A challenge is completed if your character stays upright after it flips. Should it fall off the table but lands upright on the floor, it still counts as completing the challenge. The suction cup on the bottom of the character does not have to be stuck down in order for it to be counted and standing upright.

Successfully completing challenge
The chicken team successfully completed the challenge as the chicken landed face up.

If the team completes the challenge, they will turn one of their Character Cards over to the color side. Should they fail the challenge, the other team gets to turn over one of their Character Cards.

Flip over Character Card
Since they completed the challenge, the chicken team flips over one of their Character Cards.

Before the next round begins the Challenge Card is moved to the bottom of the deck and the two Bidding Cards used in the round are discarded. Once the teams have used all four Bidding Cards from their hand, they will draw four new cards.

Winning the Game

The first team to turn all six of their Character Cards to the color side, wins Chicken vs Hotdog.

Winning Chicken Vs Hotdog
The chicken team has flipped over all of their Character Cards. They have won the game.

Dueling Sling’Ems

There is a variant game you can play. Instead of trying to complete the Challenge Cards, the two players stand 6-8 feet apart.

Both players take turns flipping their Sling’em towards the other player. They are trying to get it to land upright in front of their opponent.

If both players or neither player succeed, neither player scores points.

If only one player succeeds, they score a point.

Players will then flip them again. This continues until one player scores three points. The first player to score three points wins the game.
