Objective

The objective of Carpool Karaoke is to be the first team to score 20 points by completing challenges.

Setup

  • Choose your preferred method for playing songs.
  • Place the Dashboard and the Challenge cards where all of the players can reach them. Set each team dial to 0 on the Dashboard.
  • The players should separate into teams. There needs to be at least three teams. The number of players on each team should be as even as possible. Teams could have one one player on them. Each team chooses a city.
  • Each team takes a Share It token that matches their city. Any remaining Share It tokens are returned to the box.
  • The player whose birthday is next gets to be the lead performer. They will take the first turn in the game.
  • Before the game starts all of the players should choose a song to sing together. All of the teams score one point after they finish the song.

How to Play Carpool Karaoke

To begin your turn you will choose a song that you would like to sing.

You will then draw a Challenge card. Next spin the spinner on the Dashboard. What you spin on the spinner determines what challenge you need to complete on your turn. Look on the card for the section that matches what you spun to see the challenge that you will need to complete on your turn. If you spin “Sing It (blue) or “Work It” (pink) and you are unfamiliar with what is written on the card, you can draw a new card and try the challenge on that card.

Spinning the spinner
The lead performer has spun Work It on the spinner. The player they chose will have to perform the chosen song along with them while pretending to cast spells.

You will read the challenge corresponding to what you spun out loud. You will then choose another team to challenge. If there are more than one player on the team you chose, the team chooses which player on their team will compete against you. The players on the team(s) not competing in the challenge will be the judges for this turn.

The two chosen players will then compete in the challenge. See the corresponding sections below for how to play each type of challenge. Whichever team wins the challenge moves their team dial forward spaces equal to the points they earned.

Scoring points by completing a challenge
The Sydney team won the Work It round. They scored three points. They will turn the dial three spaces forward.

The current turn then ends. Discard the card used this turn. The team to your left/clockwise takes the next turn. The team chooses which of their players will take the next turn as the lead performer.

Carpool Karaoke Challenge Categories

When you spin the spinner there are four different sections that you can spin. The section you spin determines what challenge the two competing players will have to complete. Each type of challenge has its own unique rules.

Spinning Sing It
The current lead performer has spun Sing It on the spinner. For this round the two chosen players will have to sing the chosen song in the style of Jack Sparrow.

Sing It

The lead performer chooses a song that they and the player on the team they chose have to perform. The players can decide how they want to divide up the song.

At the end of the performance all of the judges will vote for who they thought did better. The winning player scores four points for their team. If there is a tie, the lead performer scores the points.

Spinning Work It
The lead performer has spun Work It on the spinner. The two chosen players will have to pretend to make balloon animals while singing the chosen song.

Work It

The lead performer and the player from the other chosen team will perform the song chosen by the lead performer. The challenge on the card will force the players to use certain theatrics while singing the song.

At the end of the performance all of the judges will vote for who they thought did better. The winning player scores three points for their team. If there is a tie, the lead performer scores the points.

Spinning Guess It
Since the lead performer spun Guess It, they and the chosen player have to try and figure out the answer to the question printed on the bottom of the card. The first player to provide the correct answer wins the round and scores two points for their team.

Guess It

For this challenge the two players will not sing a song. Instead one of the judges read the question and the multiple choice answers to both players. Both players will try to be the first player to guess the correct answer. The rules don’t specify if you get to make multiple guesses.

The first player to guess the correct answer scores two points for their team.

Should a player spin Sing It or Work It and they don’t want to sing, they can instead choose to play the Guess It challenge. This challenge will still only be worth two points though.

Spinning Rock It
The lead performer spun Rock It on the spinner. All of the players will perform the song and each team scores one point at the end of the song.

Rock It

When you spin the Rock It section, the lead performer doesn’t pick a team to compete against. Instead all of the players will perform the song chosen by the lead performer. At the end of the song all of the teams score one point.

Share It Token

Share It Tokens

Each team receives one Share It token at the beginning of the game. Any team that are judges this turn can choose to play their Share It token. They will choose one of the competing players to share their performance on social media. If they share their performance on social media, they score three points for their team.

Winning Carpool Karaoke

The game ends when one of the teams score 20 points. The first team to score 20 points wins Carpool Karaoke.
