Objective

The objective of Bye, Felicia! is to have the most Scoring Tokens at the end of the game by matching the other player’s responses.

Setup

  • Each player takes five Scoring Tokens, an In/Out Chip, a piece of paper and a pencil. Return any extra Scoring Tokens, and In/Out Chips to the box.
  • Mix up the cards and place them face down in a pile in the center of the table.
  • Place the die and timer where everyone can reach them.
  • Each player places their In/Out Chip in front of them so the green In side is visible.
  • The player whose name is closest to Felicia starts the game. Play moves clockwise throughout the game.

How to Play Bye, Felicia!

The current player starts each round by rolling the die and taking a card. What you roll on the die determines how you will play the current round.

After you complete the round, the role of current player passes clockwise/left for the next round.

Color

If the player rolls a color on the die, they will read off the topic on the card that matches the color that they rolled. This is the topic that the players will use for the rest of the round. Flip over the 30 second timer in order to start the round.

Rolling a color on the die
A player rolled yellow on the die. For this round the players will have to write down hobbies for grandparents.

Once the timer has been flipped over, all of the players will race to write down as many answers as they can on their piece of paper that match the current topic. You should write down things that you think the other players will also write down. Players will keep writing down answers until the timer runs out. When the timer runs out, all of the players must stop writing.

Writing down answers
One of the players wrote down these seven answers for hobbies for grandparents.

The player that rolled the die will start by choosing one of the answers they wrote down that they think one of the other players also wrote down. They will read the answer out loud and see if any other player wrote it down as well.

If another player(s) wrote down the answer, all players who wrote it down will cross it off. Should at least one other player write down the answer, the player stays in the round. You can match players that have already been eliminated from the round. If two answers are close but not exactly the same, the players who did not write down the answer decide whether the match should count.

Matching an answer
The first player decides to read off fishing for their first answer. Another player also wrote down fishing so both players cross off the answer.

Should you read off an answer that no one else wrote down, you are eliminated from the round. This also applies if you have already crossed off all of the answers you wrote down. The remaining players should say “Bye, Felicia!”. You will flip your In/Out Chip to the red Out side. You will also give one of your Scoring Tokens to the last player who read off a match.

Failing to match another player
This player read off an answer that none of the other players wrote down. They will flip their token to out, and they will pass one of their Scoring Tokens to the last player to provide a matched answer.

Players will keep reading off answers until only one player remains.

Go

If you roll Go on the die, you will play a Go Round. The die indicates if play will pass clockwise or counterclockwise during the round. Read the topic off the card that matches what you rolled.

In this round the players will not write down their answers. Instead they will say them out loud. Starting with the player that rolled the die, each player needs to name something that matches the topic.

Rolling Go on the dice
A player rolled Go on the die. The players will have to take turns naming lakes. The first player could say Lake Michigan.

Should you take a long time to come up with an answer, the next player can start a countdown from five. If they reach zero before you provide an answer, you are eliminated from the round. This also applies if you provide an answer that doesn’t match the current topic, or you repeat an answer. When you are eliminated the other players will say “Bye, Felicia!”. You will have to give a Scoring Token to the last player who give a correct answer.

The players will keep giving answers that match the topic until only one player remains.

Unacceptable Answers

There are a few rules that you must follow when playing either a Color or Go Round. You must follow these rules at all times:

  • You cannot give an answer out of turn.
  • All answers must match the current topic.
  • You can never repeat an answer that has already been said in the current round.

Should you ever break one of these rules, you are eliminated from the current round. You will have to give one of your Scoring Tokens to the last player who gave a good answer.

Winning the Game

You will keep playing Bye, Felicia! until one of two things happen.

First you will play until each player takes three turns (draws a card and rolls the die). In this scenario each player counts up their Scoring Tokens. Whichever player has the most tokens, wins the game.

Winning Bye, Felicia!
At the end of the game the players have these Scoring Tokens. Since the top player has the most Scoring Tokens, they win the game.

Should there be a tie, the tied players will play a tiebreaker round. The tied players will play a Go Round following the rules above. The player that scored the last token starts the round. A new card is drawn and the players will play the topic matching the Go Round. You will play the tiebreaker round until only one player remains. The last remaining player wins the game.

Should you ever run out of Scoring Tokens, you are eliminated from the game. The rest of the players will keep playing. If one player has all of the Scoring Tokens at any point in the game, they immediately win the game.
