Objective
The objective of Blockbuster and Chill is for both players to guess the other players mystery movie before the third Late Fee card is revealed.
Setup
- Place the game board with the city-side face up on the table.
- Find a one minute timer to use for the game. The game has its own app that could otherwise be used for the timer. On the Big Potato Buzzer app you need to select Blockbuster and Chill.
- Both players take an empty VHS sleeve, something to write with, and a piece of paper.
- Each player writes down a movie title on a piece of paper and slides it into their VHS sleeve. This is your mystery movie for the game. You should pick a movie that the other player is familiar with.

- Both players pass their VHS sleeve to the other player.
- Remove all ten of the Late Fee cards from the deck.
- Shuffle the rest of the cards and remove cards from the deck depending on the number of players:
- Easy – 15 cards
- Medium – 10 cards
- Hard – 5 cards
- Take the Late Fee cards and shuffle them into the main deck. Then place the cards you removed (previous step) on top of the deck.
- Whoever read the instructions starts the game.
How to Play Blockbuster and Chill
To start your turn you take five of the Popcorn Cards and place them facedown next to the game board. When you are ready you will start the timer.

Once the timer has started, you will choose one of the Popcorn Cards. You will add it to your hand so you can see what it written on it, but you should keep it hidden from the other player. The card will have a category printed on it. You should start calling out movies that match the category.

You should list off as many movies as you can think of that match the premise. Once you have listed off at least three films, you can start acting as well.
While you are listing off titles/acting, your teammate will try to guess the card’s category. They can make as many guesses as they want as there is no punishment for incorrect guesses.
Should your teammate guess the category, you will put the card on the table so the category is visible. You will then choose another of the cards and start listing off movies that fit the new category.
If you or your teammate get stuck, you can always pass on the current card, and try for one of the other cards. Should you have time left, you can come back to the card. If you are able to complete all of the cards before the time runs out, you can take additional cards from the stack of cards.
End of Round
Once the timer runs out, the current round ends. Any cards that the player was unable to guess are removed from the table.
You will then look at the cards that you successfully got your teammate to guess. Look at the categories on the cards and see if any of them fit the mystery movie that you put in the VHS sleeve that you gave the other player. If any of the categories match the movie, you should give them to the other player. These act as clues to help the other player guess what movie you wrote down.

Any cards that were guessed correctly but are not relevant for your mystery movie, will be turned to the popcorn side. You can spend popcorn in a couple different ways.
- 1 Popcorn – Make a guess at the mystery movie in the VHS sleeve in front of you.
- 1 Popcorn – Ask a yes/no question about the mystery movie.
- 2 Popcorn – Ask for the first letter of the mystery movie.
- 2 Popcorn – Find out the name of one of the actors/actresses in the mystery movie.
- 2 Popcorn – Learn the year that the mystery movie was released. If your teammate doesn’t know, they can look it up.
You can use a popcorn card as soon as you acquire it, or you can hold it for a future round. A player can only use the popcorn cards that they personally guessed.

The roles will switch for the next round. The player that gave clues this round, will try to guess the categories in the next round.
Guessing the Mystery Movie
At the end of the rounds that you are the guesser, you can make a guess at the mystery movie that the other player wrote down. For each guess you make you need to use one of your popcorn cards.
Should you guess the correct movie, you are halfway to winning the game. Your teammate still needs to guess their mystery movie. Since you solved your mystery movie, you can give all of the popcorn cards you acquired to your teammate. They can use these cards to try and help them figure out their mystery movie.

Late Fee Cards
As you are flipping over cards during the game, you will occasionally reveal a Late Fee Card. When you reveal one of these cards, you immediately place it along the top of the board.

Should you reveal a third Late Fee Card before you have won the game, both players lose the game.

Winning Blockbuster and Chill
Should both players figure out their mystery movie before the third Late Fee Card is revealed, both players win the game.

Combining With Blockbuster Game
You can combine Blockbuster and Chill with the original Blockbuster game.
Flip the Blockbuster and Chill board to the Blockbuster side. Cards placed on this board will be used for the “Special Guests” category. When players describe cards placed on these spaces, they can only name actors or actresses from the movie. You can list off as many actors/actresses in order to get your teammate to guess the movie.
